Let's Go Outside!

For the outdoor enthusiast, Botwood is perfectly located.

World-class angling, hunting, boating, snowmobiling, ATV riding,

or hiking – it’s all available right here, in our backyard!

We live near the mouth of the mighty Exploits, the longest river on the island of Newfoundland and one of the most productive Atlantic salmon streams in the world. Join the many anglers who come from all regions of the world to pursue our silver bullets.

If a more secluded angling experience is what you desire, there are numerous smaller

streams within a few kilometers of the town of Botwood. Our brooks and ponds hold

plenty of trout, some of the sea-going variety rivalling salmon in size and tenacity.

Botwood Harbour itself holds many delectable fish varieties and you can catch them all

along our shoreline.  A day on the bay will provide the opportunity to catch huge cod, some

as large as forty pounds!  You might also hook up with some feisty mackerel,

anadromous trout and in-season, an abundance of smelt.

You won’t have to venture far from our harbour to spot humpback

whales putting on an impressive show as they travel the coastline

feeding on herring or capelin.

Take a kayak trip and explore the islands and coves in the area. Perhaps a canoe expedition up the Exploits River, following the ancient route of the Beothuk, might just be the challenge you are seeking.

For the hunter, we have the excursion you need to complete your bucket list.
Local guides and outfitters are ready to welcome you for the hunt of a lifetime. The majestic moose lives here, as well as some of the largest black bears in North America.

There is no reason to stay inside during the winter months! Botwood offers plenty of outback snowmobiling, on hundreds of kilometers of groomed trails. For those wishing to move along at a slower pace, try snowshoeing or

cross-country skiing on our walking trails or in the surrounding countryside.

If you love the outdoors, you will love Botwood and the Exploits Valley. Throughout all four seasons, there’s always something to do outside!  But be warned – if you come, you will likely want to stay!
