The Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre is a multi-faceted facility with 80 beds (76 long-term care, 2 respite, 1 palliative care and 1 sub acute) designed to provide clinical and 12 hour Category B Emergency services , diagnostic services, and long-term care services (level III & IV care) to communities within the Exploits Health Services area.

The Centre has a 29 bed Protective Care Unit, a 39 bed LTC Nursing Unit and is home to the 12 bed Exploits Memorial Veteran’s Pavilion, a unit dedicated for veterans residing in Central Newfoundland. Additional services available at Dr. Hugh Twomey Health Care Centre include:  24-hour nursing service, social worker, recreation therapy program, clinical dietitian, pastoral care, volunteer program, palliative care program, Nursing and Protective Care respite.

This modern facility has five family practice physicians and a nurse practitioner. The Centre is affiliated with the Memorial University School of Medicine and is a teaching centre for physicians enrolled in the university's Family Practice Program. The Centre opened in 1989.
