Botwood Kinsmen Public Library

Botwood opened its first public library in 1948. By 2016 it has undergone relocation four times and has seen huge increases in membership, circulation, services and programs – most notably in recent times through the influence of computers. Another change - its name – came about when the library was relocated from a small room in the Town Hall to its present location on Water Street. At that time to help defray the costs involved in the transfer the Kinsmen Club made such a substantial cash donation, with a commitment to a yearly donation as well, that it was renamed as Botwood Kinsmen Library. The library also receives an annual grant from the Botwood Town Council, while the librarian’s salary, books, etc. and the maintenance costs are paid by the Provincial Information and Library Resources Board. This library is one of the busiest per capita in the province because of the support it receives and the diligence and creativity of the librarian and volunteer Board members.

Current Board members are:

Chair – Wanda Fisher

ViceChair - Debbie Butt

Secretary - Helen Bursey

Treasurer - Joan Byrne

Directors – Kathie Waterman and Brenda Waterman.
